The Abyss - 2D Animatic

The final 2D animatic storyboarded on The Abyss is given below. The film consists of a total of 70 hand drawn panels that were then overlaid into full grayscale panels using Procreate by adding light and shadow to the each image to portray the level of realism obtained through cinematography. The overall effect is to draw the viewer into this climactic scene through the eyes of each character as they witness the horror before them.

The soundscape added is an additional edit I made using a combination of sound effects and background scores edited in through Premier Pro to elevate the events taking place.

I really enjoyed this four week process of bringing in my interpretation of the script and understood the importance of visual imagery being a strong point of reference, to generate ideas and communicate a story point simply through the art of drawing.

The Mandalorian - 3D Animatic

This was the second half of the submission that required me to animate a total of 6 shots in this action packed chase scene from season 2 of the show. This was definitely the most challenging task I’ve done so far in 3D.

After working through each keyframe at a time to track the movement of all three ships and the camera it helped me gain the confidence I needed to navigate the settings on Blender. In the end I’m quite satisfied with the overall outcome of both animatics and I’ve gained an understanding of the importance of Storyboarding and Pre Visualization that are vital to the pre production stages of entertainment.
