After our discussion as a group we came to a decision on certain shapes from the cut outs of photographs we had taken during our visit and using that as a starting point to forming a layout on Illustrator. Since I had experience with the program I and a few others decided to develop the final designs on Adobe with Daisy working on her and Izabel’s through Procreate. Claire had liked the bark shaped cut out we made that day using paper and the idea of changing its colour to experiment with a stronger outcome.

I scanned in all the images we finalized and dragged them into Illustrator to get to work. It was a process of tracing the shape to get the silhouette correct and then working my way through combining bold colours such as pinks, greens and blues to add a pop in the piece since it was a large scale artwork.

In addition to the bark shape the other designs included an outline of the sky garden windows from two images we chose that gave a graphic element to the collage.

After sharing the initial progress on my designs Lilia suggested to add more organic shapes and shared her colour palette which I implemented on alternatives to give choices to the group. The next few days went into sharing what we created and our files so we may all have a go at each others work to present a few choices as a collaboration
Key points for the pitch on our design collaboration between Lilia, Niamh and I-
The idea of rewilding is tied in with the interconnected branches that give way to restoring the space to its natural habitat.
The structures of the sky garden can be seen as growing straight from the earth giving life to the organic design.
We wanted to highlight the harmony between the urban landscape and the natural one with the movement of this piece.

For the pitch the designers had chosen to go ahead with Rex’s design of ‘Cityflow’ that held a number of graphic details that stood out well from a distance. It was different to the rest of our designs which I felt personally were closer to what the brief specifically wanted, that was tied to the process of rewilding in nature however we were all relieved that a choice was made and we could dive into making the mural. The designers did express they were not keen on having any 3D elements to the mural because of logistical concerns related to the space being family friendly and children prying things off the wall. We all adapted fairly well to this since we had only two weeks and this limited time would go into the creation and transportation of the artwork.
