This was our last week on site before the Spring Break, which meant my Animatic should be ready to present with the Shot List. I had edited it into a timeline and was short of finishing the last five shots on the list when we called a group meeting with my lecturers on site that day and the rest of our group. We collectively watched the Animatic so far, and we paused it each time there was a shot that needed to be changed or omitted entirely.

I got important feedback that morning on what was working and what wasn’t, and guidance on how to change it quickly so we may move forward on the next draft because the film could only be animated well, based on the Animatic itself since each keyframe would be a shot in the animatic.

final revisions that were approved of him bouncing off the table towards the ball

Each time I drew a board and placed the layout of sequences in front of me, I asked my tutor for his feedback before moving forward and reformatting it in Photoshop to be placed in the timeline. Since the group meeting we called had multiple revisions that needed to be made, I needed time to make note of everything before I started drawing again so our tutor fixed an online teams meetup for the next day to check in on the finished Animatic and discuss it further since we were unable to meet as a group on the remaining two days in studio. I spent the rest of the afternoon and evening in class reordering the boards and changing the previous ones, that needed fixing in terms of their perspective to match the flow of sequences and give as much clarity as possible to the viewer.

one of my favorite shots that made it to the final draft of him turning the colander like a cowboy hat

the shot ends with him narrowing his eyes at the viewer

I stayed up nearly overnight editing everything into the timeline to present it the next morning because I knew it would need further revisions, and hopefully be the fourth and last draft. We spent nearly over an hour carefully watching the Animatic the next day and re watching shots that needed improvement. I found this quite an intensive process, but I was glad of the learning it gave me to not get carried away in detail and instead focus on movement and expression.

the new revised shot added of him further up the stairs leaving the basement when the eyes blink open

the new shot that was added as a dead frame once the ball had fallen through

the new shot added of a close up reveal of the toy above the stack of boxes

the revised shot added of him flipping the light switch back and forth

I was finally left with the last set of changes, I quickly made note of as we discussed them in a group and got to work uploading the final revised version of the Animatic on the shared drive. I added in a bit of sound to the points of action and I found it complimented the frames and drew the viewers attention to the key story points we wanted to convey.

I finally have the ability to write I'm proud to present the last draft of the Animatic, complete with a total of 44 shots down below-
