We had two weeks to complete this 6 meter long mural that had to be transported by the following week on site as this project needed to be wrapped up before Christmas. We started to measure the design from print outs by converting it to scale to assess the point of each shape’s height and width by marking it lightly with white pencil after we spent the first day priming the three boards then painting the base layer with the dark green.
This was a time consuming task as we had limited space, which meant working on one board at a time that took a good half an hour to dry after every single coat and to get a fresh opaque finish it required a good four layers of paint that Lilia, Daisy and I tackled together.

During the next few days we spent drawing the shapes and then priming the main green bit at the centre and our aim was accurately line up the designs each time we went over them to ensure the pattern was consistent over three boards where the edges touched. After priming the next step of the process was to mark out the pink vertical designs using strong tape that held in place for us to tear and maintain the spacing and angle as close to the original.

Once the primer had dried completely we went over it with the pink and grey paint with small thin brushes as we had to be very steady and careful during this process and thankfully were able to cover any mistakes with the green over it to clean up the edges.

For the third board the process was similar by priming then taping a grid of the red golden gate bridge like design, painted in red with a good five coats to bring out the colour and hide any strokes from the rollers underneath.
