The last three days to finish the mural were intense as we had many details to go over and a number of visible patches that needed immediate attention to have covered. We managed to finish painting the green pattern which was thankfully improvised by Katrina, who started painting lighter green bits inside to balance out the very pale colour that dominated the space and was ironically attuned to the design Lilia and I made that was pitched to them initially as well and felt like an ode to our creation that was a pleasant surprise.

The last sprint through the process involved layering coats of red in the red bridge grid design and painting over any white bits that stood out in the green, leaving us with a clean finished piece of artwork for them to hang in their space well in advance of their opening.

In the end we were all satisfied with the outcome for this first part of the brief and delivered what was expected of us and I learnt a lot in this short amount of time about what it meant to be creating a commercial work of art for a well known location and, The process of dealing with a client’s specifications meant changing our usual approach to adapt to one that was suitable to them which felt a bit restrictive from a creative stand point but in a way meant we could detach ourselves, from the product and see it simply as a collective exercise in learning that we each will have a difference of opinion, but at the end of the day we are evaluated on how we respond to them.
