Stardust Final Concept Artwork

The final concept artwork was a combination of the elements in the greyscale compositions I painted during my winter break but with colour and light. I used multiple references for each set dressing placed in the environment from the large banyan tree in the foreground dominating the space, the Moroccan lanterns hanging from the tree ,to the Persian rugs laid out on the ground plane and the streams of fabric tied to the tree enveloping the character of the fortune teller seated before her glowing orb.

Stardust concept artwork process

The painting took me three days to complete as I had to take breaks from obsessing over little details and stepping back to observe if the scene was working to convey the atmosphere of suspense, fantasy and intrigue.

moodboard of reference

The first layer was flat by simply starting with the base coat of each element and focusing on area and shape. This was followed by detailing the tree and the fabric that formed a frame over the scene and I found I needed to fade out the fabric as it was too bright and distracting from the focal point being the character. I had placed the stair railing at the bottom but later after rendering realized it was crowding the composition and looked better when removed since the view point was from standing on the level looking down at her.

organizing elements into separate layers helped edit them

The main component of creating this artwork that immensely helped to organise the painting was having each element in a separate group with its own layers as I rendered it. This greatly helped to go in and edit them separately without affecting anything around it and sped up the process
